Convicted Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev continues to receive assistance from crypto industry participants.
On Wednesday at Ethereum Foundation said they would donate $1,25 million to Pertsev’s legal defense. Last year, the Dutch the court sentenced the developer to 64 months in prison for helping launder $1,2 billion through cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash.
Privacy is normal and writing code is not a crime, they said Ethereum Foundation, announcing a donation.
The post was a response to Paradigm’s January announcement that it was donating $1,25 million to support the legal defense of Tornado co-founder Roman Storm.
In early February, Pertsev said he would be released from custody to work on his appeal. A Dutch court spared him pretrial detention on the condition that he agree to electronic monitoring.
Recently co-founder Ethereum Vitalik Buterin along with other members of the crypto community, called on US President Donald Trump to drop the charges against Storm following his order to pardon Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht, who has already been released.
