Gary Gensler’s Students Not Welcome at Crypto Companies, Including Gemini

Co-founder of the crypto exchange Tyler Winklevoss has announced that the cryptocurrency exchange will stop hiring MIT graduates.

The move comes shortly after former Chairman returned to MIT Sloan School of Management as a professor and co-director of FinTechAI in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab. He will teach artificial intelligence, finance, financial technology, and public policy.

As long as MIT is associated with Gary Gensler, Gemini will not hire any graduates of this school. Not even interns for our summer internship program,» Winklevoss wrote in a social media post.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked second in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025. Many leaders of famous crypto companies studied there: co-founder Uniswap Devin Walsh, Co-Founder Bitcoin Foundation Patrick Mørk and even FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried. According to RootData, MIT alumni have founded more than 54 crypto projects.

Gemini isn’t the first crypto company to refuse to work with organizations that employ former Biden administration officials. In early December, exchange Coinbase said it would not work with companies that employ people associated with the “bad behavior” of the previous administration. The announcement came after one law firm hired former SEC chief Gurbir Grewal as a partner.
